What is high throughput screening?

In general, high throughput technology or high throughput screening (HTS) refers to "drug-discovery process widely used in the pharmaceutical industry". This process involves parallel testing and analysis of materials, and is rooted in the 1990s. In pharmaceutical research, methods were developed to decrease product development cycles of pharmaceutical substances. Since the majority of chemical processes make use of catalysts to increase reaction efficiency, HTS methods are applied in catalyst research.
